Dean Foods company is an American multinational food manufacturing corporation, headquartered in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. The company was founded in 1930 with a plant that processed fresh milk into butter and non-dairy creamers. Over the next 60 years, Dean Foods acquired several smaller companies to become one of the largest producers of dairy products in the United States. In 1998, Dean Foods acquired Silk (soy beverage) from WhiteWave Foods. In 2004, they acquired Horizon Organic Dairy Company which greatly expanded their organic product line by adding ice cream, sour cream and cultured products under the Horizon Organic brand name. These brands were sold to WhiteWave foods in 2012 with a few exceptions such as Blue Bunny Ice Cream which is still owned by Dean foods who have made them one of the top brands of ice cream in the United States.
