The PMBU consists of the Switchgear & Control business unit along with the Commercial & Industrial Vehicle (CI) Group which together provide solutions to improve safety and organization within factories and warehouses around the world. These include circuit breakers used for example in household appliances or other electronic devices as as warehouse supplies such as conveyor belts, motors and industrial lighting.
The company was founded in 1911 in Cleveland, Ohio by Frederick Morey Eaton when he invented the first totally enclosed fan-cooled electric motor. His patented invention was so revolutionary that it changed how industry designed motors for years to come. The design is still used in many of today's most recognizable household appliances such as fans, power tools and kitchen appliances.
