Kellwood Company is a leading global fashion company that creates well-known, high-quality and innovative branded apparel and related products for the women's apparel industry. Our team designs and produces products to be sold through value and specialty retailers, department stores, national chains and over our eCommerce website.
Kellwood was founded in 1949 as a small retail business by two brothers named Moe and Eli Samara with $4,500 of their own money. The first store was called Discount City which was located on Adams Street in Chicago. In 1953 the name changed to American Clothing Store until 1956 when it finally changed to Kellwood Co., Inc or simply known as Kellwood Company. In 1971, the company opened its first office overseas in Hong Kong and later opened its first overseas manufacturing plant in China in 1974.
The company provides womenswear under the brand names of Brighton, Kenneth Cole New York, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Ellen Tracy and Eliza J. The company designs and produces 4-5 collections a year such as resort, cruise and sometimes bridal. Kellwood sold the Ellen Tracy brand to Iconix Brand Group in 2006 for an estimated $60 million USD.
Kellwood also specializes in manufacturing jeanswear styles under the brands of St. John's Bay, Nautica Performance Apparel, Okabashi Brands Inc., Badgley Mischka & Young Men's Wearhouse Gold Toe Brands.
