Nordstrom, a fashion retailer headquartered in Seattle, Washington was founded by John W. Nordstrom, James F. Nordstrom and Carl F. Wallin as a shoe store in 1901. In 1928, the first Nordstrom department store opened in nearby Seattle followed by another location three years later that sold clothing and sporting goods. Today, there are more than 125 locations spread across North America with its headquarters remaining in Seattle's suburbs.
Nordstrom offers a wide variety of services to include selling apparel, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and children as well as beauty products along with home furnishings such as bedding and kitchenware. The company operates under the corporate slogan "The customer is always right" which means it will do everything it can to ensure that customers are happy with their Nordstrom experience.
Nordstrom has built its reputation on exceptional customer service and quality fashion by hiring salespeople who fit the company's clothing styles. Eventually, Nordstrom expanded its product line to include women's lingerie in 1998, followed by high-end lines of men's clothing in 2003 and children's wear in 2004. It also opened two luxury boutiques for men named Barneys New York in 2008.
