Owens Corning is a company that manufactures insulation and roofing material. They were founded in 1935 and are headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. Two of the most popular products made by Owens Corning are fiberglass and foam insulation for homes and buildings. The Owens Corning headquarters can be found on the corner of Jefferson and Monroe Avenue.
The first product created by Owens Corning was paintable wallpaper created from leftover cloth fibers; this product was successful because it could cover seams easily after hanging on walls. Over time, Owens Corning began to make other home decor like computer boards, glues for plywood, paints that work well with rubber materials, and more types of wallpaper such as woodgrain patterned wallpaper. In 1970s baby boomer homes were being built, so Owens Corning created insulation product to fit under home floors.
In the 2000s, with the increase of green products on the market, Owens Corning decided to create a line of insulation that was not made with harmful chemicals or materials. They developed an eco-friendly building material called EcoTouch®. This new product also included soybean oil and recycled cotton fibers as ingredients to make the insulation environmentally friendly.
