Sealy Company is a US-based company which manufactures and markets mattresses, foundations, pillows, adjustable bases and other products. It was founded in 1881 by William S Sealy who began selling inner-spring mattresses.
Sealy has factories in the United States that produce its products for North American markets. The company also owns Stearns & Foster brand of bedding which includes mattresses, box springs, foundations, adjustable bases and pillows.
In 1948 Robert D Heath bought Sealy Corporation along with the Stearns & Foster Company to form the Sealy-Stearns division of his furniture business. In 1969 he bought back Sealy Corporation to again own all the mattress brands under one umbrella.
In 1986 Sealy Corporation was taken public by the Wasserstein Perella investment bank.
