USG company has more than 90 years of history. In 1924 Butler Manufacturing Company was founded by Samuel Mathers in Chicago with one goal – to make better wallboard than his competitors. After some experiments, he developed new material from rock and sand which can be used for manufacturing wallboards instead of traditional plaster based on lime mixtures. This invention made the company famous very soon.
In 1930 USG company was established and took over the production of wallboards from Butler Manufacturing Company. Now it produces 8 types of wallboard – 1/4" to 5/8". The first gypsum wallboard ever made by USG (Rockboard) is still used today as a standard in the industry.
