Willamette Industries is a upstream forest products company, which engages in the management of timberlands and the production of pulp, paper, tissue and wood products. The company was founded by William M. Knight on September 2nd 1885 and is headquartered Portland, OR.
Willamette Industries operates through three segments: Timberlands; Wood Products; and Renewable Fibers & Paper. The Timberland segment owns approximately 222,000 acres of timberland located throughout western Oregon and Washington State. In addition to managing its owned timberland for long-term productivity, this segment manages third party timberlands pursuant to various contractual arrangements including fee simple leases where the Company manages all phases of forest management as well as shared management agreements. The Wood Products segment manufactures and sells products such as medium density fiberboard, particleboard and laminated veneer lumber. It supplies its products to retail outlets throughout the U.S. and Canada for use in pre-fabricated residential home construction. This segment also supplies engineered wood components to many of North America's leading automobile manufacturers, including General Motors and Ford Motor Company. The Renewable Fibers & Paper segment is involved in the production of recycled paper grades at a facility located near Springfield, Oregon; and manufacturing bleached paperboard used for disposable food service packaging from recycled fibers at mills located in Portland, Oregon; Broomfield, Colorado; and Mehoopany, Pennsylvania.
